COVID-19
The Mary Mitchell Family and Youth Center (MMFYC) is committed to our community’s health. On March 16th when MMCFYC and the rest of the City closed due to the pandemic; we re-oriented our services and programming to focus more on food delivery to increase food access across families located in The Bronx. We started by delivering prepared meals (prepared meals are being provided by efforts of Assemblyman Michael Blake and Senator Gustavo Rivera), dried and canned goods, and now fresh produce, throughout our network. Our service area encompasses some of the poorest neighborhoods and those hardest hit by COVID-19.
In honor of Heidi Hynes, we have resumed and renamed “La Canasta” to “Heidi’s Canasta”. We restarted the program with a focus on delivering the essentials during the pandemic, Heidi’s Canasta includes fresh food, non-perishable food items, hygiene, and cleaning supplies. During COVID-19 the price of the bags are being waived.
We have been successful in reaching 300-600 families weekly with all the effort and support of our local community volunteers.
Thank you to the following organizations who have supported our efforts.
The Open Society Institute - Dominican Bar Association - The Bronx Club of the National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women’s Club, Inc, - and to all the individuals who have supported through personal donations on our Donor Box page.
