Food Justice Club - Teen Program
The Food Justice Club (FJC) is a program that works to enforce food justice. Food Justice is the idea of communities exercising their right to grow, sell, and eat healthy food and that they should have equal quantity and quality of food.
Over the past years we were able to grow the FJC program from five members to 10 members. They have gotten the opportunity to work on Hydroponic farming, gardening, the farmers market, healthy eating initiatives, and so much more!
The FJC works year-round to achieve our goal through community outreach and working with kids at our family center. During the school year, we work with kids and share knowledge on how they can create a healthier lifestyle. In addition, the FJC does activities such as cooking demos, word puzzles, trivia games, and lectures to provide information for the kids to make smarter life decisions.
During the summer, the FJC works with the La Familia Verde Farmers Market to sell fresh-grown produce, expanding the opportunity for kids and families to experience the taste of organic fruits and vegetables.
The FJC members also go on local trips to the community, school, and urban farms in the Bronx and teach youth how they can get engaged with gardening and learn how to maintain fruits and vegetables for harvest.
